Becoming a motorcycle instructor is one of the most rewarding paths a rider can take - and at Whiteline Motorcycles, you don't need previous teaching experience to begin.

Our instructor training programme is designed for passionate riders who want to turn their love of motorcycling into a meaningful career.

We provide a complete development pathway, from core teaching foundations to real-world coaching skills, ensuring every trainee becomes a confident, safe and professional instructor.

With structured modules, hands-on mentoring and a supportive team environment, this course gives you everything you need to grow from enthusiastic rider to fully qualified instructor.

The five modules below form a structured pathway that takes you from capable rider to qualified instructor. Each module focuses on a specific part of your development - from foundations and communication skills, to on-bike mastery, roadcraft coaching and supervised CBT delivery. ​

Module 1 - Instructor Foundations

Type: Classroom

Hours: 10

Cost: £200

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of a motorcycle instructor

  • Learn legal requirements, insurance, safeguarding, and DVSA expectations

  • Develop communication skills for nervous, inexperienced, or anxious learners

Module 2 - Instructor Motorcycle Control

Type: On-Bike (riding)

Hours: 10

Cost: £200

  • Demonstrate flawless slow-speed control

  • Perform all CBT manoeuvres at instructor standard

  • Learn how to teach clutch control, balance and coordination

  • Understand common beginner errors and how to correct them

  • Slow riding

  • U-turns

  • Figure of 8

  • Controlled stops

  • Emergency stop

  • Gear selection & clutch finesse

  • Demonstration techniques (clear, calm, repeatable)

  • Teaching simulation: 'Explain & Demonstrate'

Module 3 - Roadcraft & On-Road Instruction

Type: On-Bike (riding)

Hours: 10

  • Understand positioning, hazard perception and commentary riding

  • Learn how to coach riders through real-world traffic situations

  • Develop judgement for when to intervene or redirect

Module 4 - CBT Delivery Training

Type: Classroom & On-Bike

Hours: 10

  • Deliver all 5 elements of a CBT confidently

  • Structure a full training day

  • Manage a mixed-ability group

  • Maintain DVSA compliance and record-keeping

  • Element A: Introduction & Eyesight

  • Element B: Controls & Basic Theory

  • Element C: Practical onsite training

  • Element D: On-road briefing

  • Element E: On-road riding

  • Debriefing and feedback techniques

  • Completing CBT certificates correctly

  • Deliver a full mock CBT day

  • Senior instructor sign-off

Module 5 - Instructor Shadowing & Real-World Experience

Type: Classroom and On-Bike

Hours: 12 

Cost: £200

  • Observe experienced instructors

  • Assist with real students

  • Build confidence in unpredictable situations

  • Learn Whiteline's teaching rhythm and standards

Activities

  • Shadow CBT days with live students

  • Assist with bike setup, radios and briefings

  • Deliver small sections under supervision

  • Receive feedback after each session

Assessment

  • Senior instructor sign-off

  • Readiness check for independent CBT delivery

​​

Final Sign-Off​

Requirements

  • Pass all module assessments (1-5 in order)

  • Deliver three supervised CBTs to a satisfactory standard (all elements A-E delivered)

  • Demonstrate safe judgement, communication and professionalism​

​​

Outcome

  • Down-trained CBT ticket applied for with DVSA

  • Job opportunity on a self-employed basis for 1 year during probation period. After 1 year an employed role will be offered.

​

Salary Expectations (on a self-employed basis)

  • Down-trained CBT instructor - £125 per 8 hour day

​​

After further training:

  • CBT1 Instructor - £150 per 8 hour day

  • DAS Instructor - £200 per 8 hour day

​

Pre-Requisites

To become a DVSA assessed CBT motorcycle instructor you must have a driving licence from either:

  • Great Britain or Northern Ireland

  • the EU or EEA - but you must register it first

You must also:

  • be 22 or older

  • have had a full category A2 or A motorcycle licence for at least 3 years
